The Ariadne system was developed at the Information Sciences Institute in California. They have a few demonstrations up and running, including the Restaurant Locator, which integrates information from Zagat, ETAK, and the US Census Bureau.
A couple of other IISs: the Information Manifold (developed at AT&T), and TSIMMIS (developed at Stanford).
Two IIS research workshops were held recently: the AAAI-98 Workshop on AI & Information Integration, and the ECAI-98 Workshop on Intelligent Information Integration.
An excellent survey of Database/Web research: Database Techniques for the World-Wide Web: A Survey, by Daniela Florescu, Alon Levy, and Alberto Mendleson, SIGMOD Record 27(3).
My own research concerns automatic wrapper construction.
