Research sponsors
My academic research was sponsored by:
Miscellany
- I organized the 2005 Dagstuhl Seminar on Machine
Learning for the Semantic Web.
- An early "claim to fame" is that I was one of the first people to
investigate automated learning of Web information extraction patterns
(a.k.a. "wrapper induction").
- POW is a Prolog-based programming language
designed for information extraction and text classification.
- From 2004-2006, I was a Visiting Scientist with IBM's
Dublin CAS.
- I wrote a series of "semi-technical" articles on information technology research for the Irish Times.
- Embodied/situated AI: a survey of work on situated
intelligence; and an analysis of the relevance of
philosophical ideas about embodiment to research on software
agents.
